Faevv Lla’lur [fayhyv]

Faevv is a shadow-user, meaning she has the power to manipulate space. Having lost her father to a teleportation mishap and her uncle to war, she is the last remaining blood-bred shadow-user in her tribe. Raised in an ordinary island village with her non-Juathuur mother, Faevv grew up without ever forming strong ties to either group. When she was finally indoctrinated officially into the Juathuur ranks she quickly began to learn about the great powers, and some of the great faults, of her kind. During the conflict with the Burnt Country deserters she crossed between both sides and ended up choosing a third way that led her to the world of the gods and made a bargain with The First that allowed her to stay.

Juinn Llae’vveil [hwin]

For a long time, Juinn lived with his mother in their rural desert retreat and assumed himself to be no more than human. But then he was kidnapped by an assassin and discovered abilities within himself that no ordinary human should possess. His journey led him to his father Weijuaru, from whom he had inherited shift-magic – the power to manipulate time. Their reunion was brief, however. While battling his former teacher and ally, Beisaru, Weijuaru was struck by a nefarious and lethal spell. To avoid death, Weijuaru was forced to put himself into a timeless, coma-like state. His final wish was for Juinn to take over his kingdom, but all Juinn wants is to have his father returned to him and to be free to explore the sky with the gods like Faevv.

Merlu [mer-loo]

Also known as The-God-in-the-Tree, Merlu is a myserious godly being who apparently likes to take human form. He was the original source of the Juathuur powers, bestowing them on their ancestors as a gift. But when he did so he violated one of the sacred laws of the Gods that forbid them from meddling overtly with the creatures of the universe. As punishment (and to keep him out of trouble), the head god shackled him to a tree on the God’s homeworld, where he is forced to live a very lonely existence. At one time, Merlu lived as a human and had a wife and child, but his family was murdered by the god Lok. Merlu is also known as The Second, being the second god to awaken after the First. Before his penance he was The First’s right hand and in spite of his fall from grace, most of the other gods still hold him in high regard.

Serri [sair-ee]

A goddess, fourth to awaken. She is Merlu’s friend and confidant but disapproves of his obsession with mortals. Serri is the guardian of the gates, meaning she monitors traffic between worlds. She often acts as a messenger and go-between when The First is busy. She is also the only god other than The First who has access to the void prison where Lok is held.  Once upon a time, Serri was the main architect of the God’s world when it was built, so she more than any other knows it’s structure and that of the Gates.

Ix [ihks]

A goddess, 3rd to awaken.  Ix has taken on the role of the First’s second-in-command since Merlu was bound to the tree.

Moire [mwar]

A goddess, 11th to awaken. Moire is the mother of a demigod named Mordth.  She used to be an associate and supporter of Lok, but gave up that loyalty as well as any contact with her son in order to retain her freedom when Lok was chained.  The First still considers her untrustworthy however, and monitors her closely.

Anira Lla’vveil [ah-nee-ra]

Anira is Juinn’s grandmother and the mother of Weijuaru (Juar).  She is a noted inventor, famous for inventing fluur rings.

Orllee Llae’vith [orl-lee]

A juathuur girl in training to become a Danei.  Orllee has been using the playing pieces of a game called Togo to train in word magic.

Ratheel Llae’din [rah-theel]

One of Faevv’s squad-members before she crossed to the God’s world.  In the intervening years, Ratheel has become a Ronei and is learning word magic.

Juoira Llae’faer [hwah-rah]

Juoira and Ushaed are the two remaining members of their old Danei squad and wear tattoos that memorialize their fallen squadmate. Lately Ratheel has been filling the third role in their group.
