I’m thinking that the tat on Faevv’s hand and the mark on the stones is to act as a focus since Juar has frozen himself in time to allow Merlu time enough to figure out how to restore him after what Beisaru did…
The only way that Faevv could leave her home planet was to use the shift and shadow paths, problem was that she couldn’t use both which is where Juar came into things since he too wanted to cross the chaos gate. This was done in conjunction with the Trees (Merlu’s prison and the tree Viethell created to soak up all the energy Dej was producing with Shard magic) as the focus point.
Hey, this is looking great - looking forward to reading more!
For a similar theme of gateways and magic(though I’m sure the story and characters will be very different)fellow readers may enjoy to read the C. J. Cherryh books in the Morgaine Saga: (Gate of Ivrel, Well of Shuan, Fires of Azeroth). Love to share favorite books with an audience i think will appreciate it.

Very nice.
I wonder why her specific brand of magic is involved with the stones. Is she the only one who can open the portals (or whatever)?
Anyway, I guess there’s as many stones as there’s worlds.
